24 Hour Comic!

by Kyle Lees on September 29th, 2009
Posted In: Blog

This Saturday, October 3, I’ll be joining hundreds of other cartoonists in doing one of the most awesome things ever: making a 24 hour comic.  I just barely pulled my comic off last year, and am happy enough with it, looking back.

For the uninformed, the rules are easy: 24 hours, 24 pages, or 100 panels. For the uninformed-yet-really-curious, the official 24 Hour Comics Day site has more details than you can shake a stick at.  Seriosuly, stop shaking that stick.  It’s rude.

So, starting when I get up on Saturday (I’m aiming for around 10:00am EST), be sure to check back here all day to witness my slow decent into madness first-hand.  And for extra fun, be sure to follow my Twitter feed, to watch the level of cursing slowly but surely rise!

Yay!

On Shading

by Kyle Lees on August 25th, 2009

If you go back to about mid-August, you’ll notice that I’ve been trying to up my game in terms of shading.  Light and shadow are something that I’ve never been able to emulate very well; I was always more comfortable with dropping some shadows along my lines, which is fine, I suppose, but doesn’t end up looking realistic.  Blame it on the fact that I still think that the more simple the art is, the more easily it can convey its message.  Be that as it may, there’s no excuse for not trying, at least.

Plus, well, I ended up reading through the entire Girls With Slingshots archive recently, and that lady knows her lighting.

Old Junk!

by Kyle Lees on June 25th, 2009

I’ve put some of my older work on its very own Other Comics page, by effectively using Dropbox for file hosting.  Go Dropbox!  Ski Ninjas and Fight Song can live on your computer, now, where they’ve always belonged.

As for the first two years of Premise Beach, which have never been hosted here?  Well, I kinda sorta deleted them, accidentally.  I’m sure they’ll turn up, eventually, in time to remind me of just how crude and ugly they were, made by my crude, ugly hands.

Seriously, my hands are not pretty ones.  Too much knuckle, not enough not-all-red-and-freckly.

Tinkering with the site…

Though, I suppose if you’re a regular visitor, you’ve probably already figured that out.  Take it easy on me, folks: I have no idea what I’m doing.

Seriously, the most complicated stuff I was ever able to handle was setting up old MUGEN games, so, y’know, that’s saying something.
